Austria

I only spent a short time in Austria to Vienna and Salzburg on a tour. Vienna is a historically rich place great for food and music as well. The countryside is beautiful and I hear there is good skiing in the Austrian Alps.

1. Vienna

Highlights: Old town, music, food
Suggest Staying: 2-3 days
Stay Around: City center

Vienna, known for schnitzel, Mozart, and a variety of other things has been a cultural center of not only Austria, but much of Europe as well. There is also a lot shared culturally with Germany.

See & Do

  • Historic City Center. Main historic district.
  • Stephansdom. Beautiful church. If you look closely, you can see many phallic symbols.
  • Schonbrunn Palace. Incredible palace. I personally enjoyed it more than Versailles in Paris.
  • Time travel Vienna. 5D time travel experience. Was fun.
  • Naschmarkt. Vienna’s biggest market.
  • Stephensplatz, Karlsplatz. Town squares.

Tips

  • Food. Be sure to try some schnitzel and apple strudel.

2. Salzburg

The Riverside

Highlights: Sound of Music, mountains, hills
Suggest Staying: 1-2 days
Stay Around: City center

The famous site of The Sound of Music, beautiful hills and mountains, and a very quaint, calming town. Also the hometown of Mozart.

Tips

  • Beggars. There are quite a few people asking for money dressed as cripples. Most are fake and if you look closely at their feet, they just have their shoes partly off and nice clothes underneath.
