First trip to the Midwest, not counting Chicago, in search of hip new cities, waterfalls, and beautiful lakeshores. An epic 36 day, 6,600 mile adventure. This part of the country is quite beautiful and tales of Midwest friendliness are definitely true. Be sure to check out each state’s post for more information and pictures!
Given this itinerary is quite long, probably too long for most, an alternative way to break it up would be…
- Michigan. You could do a 2+ week trip in Michigan alone, especially if you extended into the Upper Peninsula. If I were to go back I would probably start in Grand Rapids and make my way up through Pictured Rocks, then probably come back down the east side.
- Minneapolis and Apostle Islands. Minneapolis is awesome, definitely make your way to the North Shore. The Apostle Islands are nearby. If you have a couple extra days, I would then check out Madison. Milwaukee is nearby and may offer more selection for flights home.
